Stedfast lose top ace Paul Down Under
January 24th 2000. The Evening Herald by Jimmy Geoghegan.
Premier big guns Stedfast United have received a blow to their title ambitions with the
news that towering centre-back Paul Geraghty will be unavailable for the foreseeable future.
The six-foot-six defender is taking a sabbatical from his job with Irish Life to travel
down to Australia for a year.
Geraghty has been one of the central figures in Stedfast's tremendous run of success in
recent years and was captain of the United side which defeated Strand United in last season's
Prudential Cup final. After spending the early part of his career with Stedfast, Geraghty played
at Intermediate level with Bank of Ireland before returning to the Marley Park-based outfit before
the start of last season. Paul's absence from the centre of the Stedfast defence will be good news
for all United opponents in the Premier. We wish him the best of luck on his trip Down Under.
